Dénia is a historic coastal city in the province of Alicante, Spain, located on the Costa Blanca along the Balearic Sea. Situated roughly halfway between Alicante and Valencia, it serves as the capital and judicial seat of the comarca (district) of Marina Alta. Dénia’s rich historical heritage reflects the influence of numerous civilizations over thousands of years.
The city has an area of 66.2 square km and an elevation of 22 m. It has Mediterranean climate with yearly average maximum and minimum temperature of 23° C and 14 °C respectively. The gentilic in Spanish is Dianense.
Dénia has an estimated population of around 49,700 inhabitants, although this number can quadruple during the summer months due to tourism. Foreign residents from over a hundred countries make up approximately 27% of the population. According to recent census data, the foreign population has increased by 1.44% in the past year. About 59% of these residents are from the European Union, 24.6% from Latin America, and 10.1% from non-EU European countries. Among the European nationals, the most common are German and British, followed by Ukrainian, Romanian, and Russian citizens. The largest single foreign nationality in Dénia is Colombian.
