Dénia is a historical coastal city in the province of Alicante, Spain, on the Costa Blanca of the Balearic Sea, halfway between Alicante and Valencia, and the capital and judicial seat of the comarca (district) of Marina Alta. Denia’s historical heritage has been influenced by many civilizations during thousands of years.
The city has an area of 66.2 square km and an elevation of 22 m. It has Mediterranean climate with yearly average maximum and minimum temperature of 23° C and 14 °C respectively. The gentilic in Spanish is Dianense.
Dénia has a population estimated in around 49,000 inhabitants, although it could get quadrupled by tourism during the summer months. Foreign residents from more than a hundred countries account for about 27% of the population. According to census data, the foreign population has grown by 1.44% during the last year. About 59.0% of the foreign residents come from the European Union, 24.6% from Latin America and 10.1% from non-EU Europe.The predominant foreign European nationalities in Dénia are German and British, followed by Ukranians, Romanian and Russians. The largest foreign population is from Colombia.
